定年を迎えた夫婦と猫のための、終の棲家となる平屋住宅プロジェクト。​

北側に迫る裏山の土砂災害警戒区域（レッドゾーン）を躱し、東にある既存の日本庭園との関係性を再構築。南西側に車と人の動線を確保することで、建物の配置と平面のプロポーションが自ずと導き出された。​

LDKは東向きに日本庭園と正対させ、周囲を個室が取り囲む構成とした。 基本の天井高さを2160㎜と低く抑え、DKの上部には倍の高さ（4320㎜）になるようにボリュームを載せ、平面的に角度を捻った。この操作により、DKと回遊動線を覆うように、部屋を越境する吹抜け（緩衝空間）が生まれた。​

吹抜けボリューム（中間領域）の南北には、四季の変化に対応した採光・換気と、北側の裏山と立体的に接続するための開口を設けた。 各室で形状、サイズ、方角の異なる吹抜けは、光の入り方、外部的開放感と洞窟的安心感、視線の向け方のパラメーターに変化をもたらし、単純なボリュームでありながら、部屋ごとに全く異なる複雑な印象と効果をもたらした。​

ワンルームと個室群の集まりの間にある新たな豊かさを作ることが出来た。

■ 外観

農家住宅に見られる、納屋などが独立して並ぶ「分棟型」の群としての風景を、既存の2つの黒い切妻屋根に、新設した2つの黒い矩形を寄り添わせることで再構成した。 

 

■ 吹抜けを介して重なる認知領域

部屋を越境する吹抜けは、視線の高さでは各室のプライバシーを確保しつつ、上部空間を共有することで、隣室の領域までを自室の一部として知覚させる。互いの空間が上空で越境し合い「認知領域」が重なることで、実際の物理的な面積以上に空間が拡張されたような広がりを生み出している。 

■ 中間領域としての吹抜けボリューム

吹抜けボリュームを、外部と優しく接続する「中間領域」として位置づけた。 まず、自身の身を置く低層部と上部吹抜けの「輪郭」を違えることで、ひと繋がりの連続した空間でありながら、そこに「室内と外」のような関係性が生まれる。 さらに、室内から外部を眺める際の「明暗のコントラスト」を内部に構成すべく、低層部は焦げ茶色のラワン合板を用いて重心を下げた洞窟的な空間とした。対照的に、上部吹抜けは設備的なノイズを排除した白く無機質な仕上げとすることで、吹抜け部の距離感やスケール感を消失させ、快晴の空を見上げるような開放感を生み出している。 これらの操作により、この吹抜けボリュームは半屋外のような「中間領域」として内外を優しく接続する。

 

■ 構造
5400㎜角の吹き抜けを、無柱のまま入手が容易な材で実現するため、屋根にはレシプロカル構造を採用した。さらに上下の空間を視覚的に切り離して見せるため、吹き抜け内側の間仕切りは構造から解放された雑壁とし、ボリュームが噛み合うのを避けた。

Designed as a forever home for a retired couple and their cat, this single-story project carefully navigates its site constraints to redefine its relationship with the environment. By avoiding the northern landslide warning zone and securing pedestrian and vehicular access from the southwest, the layout naturally oriented the main living spaces to face an existing Japanese garden to the east. The exterior reinterprets the local vernacular of clustered farmhouses by introducing two new black rectangular volumes that harmonize seamlessly with two existing black gable roofs.

Inside, the spatial configuration centers on an east-facing open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area, surrounded by private rooms. The standard ceiling height is intentionally kept low (2,160 mm), utilizing dark brown Lauan plywood to create a grounded, cave-like atmosphere. Above the dining and kitchen area, a twisted double-height volume (4,320 mm) is introduced. To realize this 5.4-meter square column-free void using standard timber, a reciprocal roof structure was adopted. Finished in pure, inorganic white to eliminate visual clutter, this upper void simulates the feeling of looking up at a clear sky. This profound contrast differentiates the spatial outlines, transforming the void into an "intermediate space" that gently connects the intimate indoors with the external environment.

This twisted void irregularly intersects the floor plan, providing each room with distinct daylight, ventilation, and visual connections to the northern mountain landscape. At eye level, the privacy of each room is strictly maintained; however, the shared upper void allows adjacent areas to be perceived as extensions of one's own territory. This overlapping of "perceptual fields" expands the perceived boundaries far beyond the physical footprint, achieving a new spatial richness between a single continuous space and a cluster of independent private rooms.
